Thuto Moutloatse

OWNER / PARTNER GUIDE / SAFARI PLANNER

Named “Best Safari Guide on the Planet” in Outside magazine’s Travel Awards, Thuto Moutloatse’s life has evolved around wildlife. His passion for nature runs so deep that one of his guests once observed, “He seems to really understand the profound position he is in—that he lives our ‘trip of a lifetime’ every single day.”

As a result of his father’s involvement in tourism and conservation, Thuto had the privilege of growing up in pristine natural areas of Botswana, which fostered a childhood love of the wild. He continued to hone his bush skills and passion for wilderness through hiking and horseback riding while attending Treverton College in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains in neighboring South Africa.

Following graduation, Thuto completed a Travel & Tourism course, undertook volunteer work at Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve, then returned to Botswana, beginning his career at Khama Rhino Sanctuary. He then spent four years as a lodge-based guide in the private Linyanti Concession. To feed his insatiable interest in Botswana’s diverse ecosystems, Thuto began leading safaris that spanned the country’s mosaic of prolific wildlife regions, enhancing his natural sense for guiding and furthering his personable rapport with guests.

Thuto’s extensive knowledge of birding, tracking and wildlife photography, combined with his larger-than-life personality, have earned him frequent guiding requests from repeat guests from around the world. There is a never a dull moment with Thuto: he may have you down on your hands and knees looking at tiny critters, tracking big game on foot, or enjoying “breakfast-on-a-spade” or dinner under the stars. After going on safari with Thuto, guests return home with new knowledge and a new friend. But while you are with him in the moment, be sure to ask him about Tour de Tuli and why he loves seafood so much…

Thuto is an accomplished photographer, leading photographic safaris throughout Africa while sharing his technical expertise with guests. View Thuto’s latest photography portfolio additions on Instagram at @thutomoutloatse.

Brooks Kamanakao

PARTNER GUIDE / SAFARI PLANNER

Not every guide can claim to have been born in the bush he now guides in, but Brooks can. He grew up in the small village of Motopi, on the banks of the then-flowing Boteti River, one of the main channels of the Okavango Delta. Belonging to the Bayei tribe (the people who introduced poled mokoro boats to the Okavango Delta), Brooks had a fascination with Botswana’s wild areas from a young age.

Determined to pursue a career in tourism, Brooks began working as a safari camp assistant, then earned a position as a waiter. His real interest was in the wilds of the bush, though, and he soon became a tracker for one year before passing his professional guide course in 2000. Since then, Brooks has fine-tuned his guiding skills while working at premier camps like Kings Pool and Mombo, earning a reputation for never giving up on a wildlife chase.

Brooks enjoys sharing his passion for astronomy, birding and the history and legends of Botswana’s diverse cultures, and he is always up for a good joke. His infectious laugh and encyclopedic knowledge of flora and fauna have made him one of Southern Africa’s most requested private safari guides, with many repeat guests who have returned for another “Brooks safari.” He also helped two of his past guests with a philanthropic endeavor to set up a school library in Maun, Botswana.

When he’s not tracking wild animals, Brooks can be found gazing up at the starry night sky or photographing wildlife and birds—some of his photos have been featured in Africa Geographic magazine and Barcroft media.

Brooks has traveled to the U.S. on several occasions to educate school children about conservation, and he is a regular visitor to Yosemite and Yellowstone national parks.

Lemme Dintwa

PARTNER GUIDE / SAFARI PLANNER

They say you need 10,000 hours of practice to become world-class in any field. If like me, you spent your childhood holidays in the bush tending to your family livestock, you would have racked up those “wildlife tracking” practice hours pretty quickly.

Keeping my family’s wealth from any potential predator threat will do that to anyone. Instead of provoking a strong distaste for the wilderness, spending all this time in the bush only fostered my life-long love for nature.

My time in school developed a curiosity in geography as well as a mostly self-taught art of astronomy. This opened my eyes and made me appreciate the fact that a desk job would never suit me, that I needed to follow my soul into nature. I have been involved with conservation programmes like BirdLife Botswana, where I would spend days camping in remote nature reserves in order to count birds. This began my steady climb to the man I am today. I have nurtured my guiding career since 2007.

I have guided in all three of the ecosystems in which Wilderness Safaris operates in Botswana – Okavango Delta, Linyanti and Kalahari – and also have experience in managing camps. Positive, outgoing and adventurous – we wouldn’t put skydiving beyond – I’m always willing to go the extra mile. I have a strong interest in photography, which has also helped me lead many successful safari excursions.

Tebla Mokgosi

PARTNER GUIDE / SAFARI PLANNER

Tebla was born and raised in Maun, Botswana. His love for the bush was planted in him while he was a young boy when he started going on frequent family trips to the Maun Educational Park and Moremi Game Reserve. He also accompanied his grandfather on his trips through the delta delivering supplies from Maun.

He started his journey as a professional guide when he signed up for a professional guiding course through the Botswana Wildlife Training Institute on a quest for adventure. His wilderness journey has included guiding at some of Botswana’s top wildlife areas including the Moremi Game Reserve, Chiefs Island (Mombo), Linyanti, Chitabe, Vumbura and most recently, Abu Camp.

Tebla has developed a keen interest in wildlife photography which he has been able to develop through Olympus cameras and Pangolin Safaris Photo Workshops. He also loves sharing his passion for wildlife, confidently assisting guests with their photography and getting the right angle for that perfect shot! He regularly shares his wild shots through social media on Instagram (@teblamokgosi) and also on Facebook (Wild Shots by Tebla Mokgosi).

Tebla’s love of travel has taken him to countries including Namibia, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, Ethiopia, South Africa as well as Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore.
